Sorsogon became famous as "The Whale Shark Capital of the World" beca use of its sustainable whale-shark interaction, or wildlife tourism. Locally known as butandi ng, this largest living fish species take its haven in the waters of Donsol from November to June. The province's cluster of river cruise tourism systems, which includes the rivers in Donsol, Pilar, Castilla and Sorsogon City (acronym DonPicaso), affords tourists sightseeing delights. Home of the pinkish white sand Subic beach, the municipality of Matnog in the southernmost tip of the province is the gateway to the Visayas by ferry services, while Bulan, as well as Pilar, provide access to Masbate. Before going to Masbate, explore Pilar's Bantigue Marine Sanctuary where one can swim, snorkel and see various underwater marine life, colors and shapes and then cavort on Panumbagan sandbar.
From Manila, it can be reached by air via Legazpi City. From there, are vans and buses bound for Sorsogon at the integrated terminal. There are also daily bus trips to Sorsogon City, the transport hub of the province.
