Aside from the pristine beaches and crystal clear waters, Catanduanes is well-known as an established surfing destination. Facing the Pacific Ocean, Puraran in the town of Baras is home to the so-called “majestic” waves producing perfect barrels suitable for professional surfers.
Puraran is home to the world-renowned “Majestic” waves with its breathtaking long barrel type surf that is perfect for both the serious surfers and the novice. This tourism paradise is part of the surfing circuit in the country, usually serving the last leg of the competition. Offshore waves are in their greatest shape during the months of September to November. The area also boasts of a magnificent view of mountains and coves, hence photo enthusiasts enjoy a perfect view of the sunrise.
Catanduanes can be reached by air from Manila with daily Cebu Pacific regular flights or by PAL Express from Clark. By sea the ports of entry are San Andres and Virac from Tabaco City in Albay onboard Ro-Ro vessels and fast-craft. It can also be reached by chartered boats from Caramoan, Camarines Sur.
